I take issue with your post. For some bonafides before I begin, I’ve been a BKA since 2007, as a result of being struck by a car. I was in the Army and served another 9 years post amputation including parachuting and deploying to Afghanistan as an amputee. I know Virginia Hall’s story extremely well. Would it be amazing if her role were played by an amputee? Sure! Of course!!! BUT, not if the actor isn’t as good as someone with two sound limbs. I never want ‘the pity job/role/accolade’. To potentially water down something is exactly what limits anyone in this community. I wish you the best, I think you are amazing. My comments certainly don’t imply you aren’t incredibly talented. I just disagree with your view on this topic.

Hi Patty, I think we actually agree, but I don't think it's fair to assume that there won't be a disabled actor just as talented as a nondisabled actor to play the role. I can say with 100% certainty if the casting directors looked for an actress with a disability for this role they would find the perfect person, without compromising the integrity of the performance. I'm so tired of the presumption that an amputee can't be talented enough to lead a film. There are so few opportunities for amputee actors, for an iconic role like this it should be a priority to search the world for the perfect actress for this role, which includes the actress being an amputee. Casting an amputee would not compromise the performance, it would only enhance it. I really don't believe there is any excuse not to cast an amputee because of the reason you stated, I think it's dangerous to think that way.
